Hi guys,

 

today we studied some grammar (once in a while... it can't hurt, can it?).

We determined the construction and also the use of the two present tenses in English.

You will need to be able to choose the correct tense (and the correct form of the verb) for:

- The description of actions in a picture (Present Be+ing)
- The narration of events (Present Simple)

Hi guys,

 

today we finished talking about Spiderman. So this means you will have your test very soon... get prepared!

 

Here is what we did today: we looked at the board and tried to memorize the picture as well as possible and then narrate what you remembered in the present tense.

 

First, Peter goes to the lab.

Then a spider comes down from the ceiling to Peter.

Then, ... 

Then, three people look at him because he feels strange.

Then, ...

Finally, a person in a car looks at Peter when he climbs a wall.

Grammar:

Attention à ne pas oublier le "s" de la 3ème personne du singulier au présent simple (cf. looks). La 3ème personne du pluriel ne prend pas de "s" en revanche (cf. look).

Method:

Pour organiser les éléments sur une frise chronologique, utiliser des connecteurs de temps comme: "first", "then", "finally".

- apprendre la leçon et compléter le tableau phonétique avec les mots de vocabulaire des leçons sur les super héros.

- préparez votre devoir qui aura lieu ce vendredi 23/11 ou mardi 27/11. Essayez de commencer le 2ème trimestre avec une bonne note...

today everything was going smoothly until I had to be strict again with you because you couldn't manage to be quiet and focused on the lesson... For this, you unfortunately will have to complete an additional homework assignment of 3 pages...

Here are some of the notes we took on the board but we couldn't write in the copybooks because of your attitude... I expect them to be known however for next time.

Hi guys,

 

today we corrected the exercise you had to finish at home about the description of the pictures.

Thanks to Sarah and Kader we could go over two panels (#1 & #2).

Here are important elements to remember from the lesson that we wrote in your copybooks:

 

Method:
Type of document
Divide into parts (+ localisation)
Describe = WHO / WHERE / WHEN / WHAT
Analyse the picture, the text and the situation = HOW / WHY
Comment (= opinion + likes & dislikes)

 

Vocabulary:
- uncle / aunt / nephew
- (to) fake
- (to) laugh at / (to) laugh with ...
- whereas
- (to) make jokes
- a nickname (for example: "Petey" is a nice nickname whereas "bookworm" or "professional wallflower" are insults to talk about Peter Parker)
- a lad / a boy
- an alarm clock

...


Grammar:

Utiliser BE + ing au présent pour mentionner les actions présentées dans chaque vignette lors d'une description.

Localisation: ne pas se tromper entre les 3 prépositions IN / ON / AT

-> In the middle / In the corner / In the foreground / In the background
-> At the top / At the bottom
-> On the right / On the left

There is ... / there are ... pour présenter une ou plusieurs choses dans le document.

Homework:

- par écrit, sur feuille, choississez l'une des vignettes restantes (sauf #1 ou #2) et la décrire en utilisant la méthode vue en cours.

today we worked on Spider-man again with a recap from the lesson before the holidays. Then you had to chose one panels from the 2nd page of the comic strip and use the method I taught you to present a document.

Pensez à investir du vocabulaire nouveau et à intégrer des éléments de grammaire riches et bien construits:

Grammar & Structures:

- there is / are ... (pour présenter une ou plusieurs chose / personnes dans un doc.)

- ... whereas ... (pour opposer deux idées contraire)

- Present BE + ing (pour parler des actions qui se passent dans le document)

- les trois prépositions à associer correctement aux mots de la localisation (In / On / At)

Vocabulary:

- (to) laugh at / (to) make fun of / (to) giggle at

- an insult -> a bookworm / a professional wallflower / a nerd / a geek

- finir ce travail pour la prochaine fois (une feuille pour 2).

Here is what you finally said:

 

The document is a comic book.
It deals with Spiderman.

In the background, there is a building, probably Peter's house.

There is a caption and balloons on the left, at the top.

There are 7 characters:
- 6 friends are in the foreground whereas Peter Parker is alone in the background. There is his black shadow behind him. It's his alter ego.
- The friends are happy whereas Peter Parker is lonely.
- He is in the dark whereas the group in the foreground is in the bright.

 

Remember!

- Utiliser les mots de la localisation dans une image.
- Exprimer le contraste.
- lonely (adj. lié au sentiment de solitude) / alone (adj. lié au fait d'être seul, sans personne à côté)

Hey everybody,

 

today we could write a lesson about the following document:

 

Here is what we said:

Lesson: Spiderman is my favorite super hero.

The document is an interview / a report about favorite comic books for teenagers.

It is about Spiderman.
The interviewee likes him because he is a normal person. He is a photographer and a reporter at a newspaper.
He can change into Spiderman, a character with powers.
He can shoot web. He can't fly but can run fast and climb walls. They are the extraordinary powers of a spider, his animal emblem.

He does things good contrary to the Green Goblin, his enemy; he is a villain who does things evil.

 

Vocabulary:
- an enemy / a villain / an evil character
- a fictitious character

 

Strategy:
- le suffixe -er = pour désigner la personne qui fait l'action qui précède.
ex: gardener / interviewer / ...
Il s'agit souvent d'un nom de métier.
- le suffixe -ee = pour désigner la personne qui subit l'action qui précède.
ex: interviewee / ...

 

NB:

- Attention au déplacement de l'accent tonique sur 'photograph et pho'tographer

- pour jeudi 25/10/12: rendre son cahier pour notation. S'il n'est pas complet et propre, il faudra que vous le refassiez pendant vos vacances.
