Hi guys,

 

today we watched some parts of the movie: "Tangled" featuring a fairy tale character: "Rapunzel", a beautiful princess stolen by a witch when she was a baby.

You had to comment on the story and I have to say you did a pretty good job.

Hey,

 

today we went to the library where you had to take in charge some 6th graders. You had to show them how well you could speak English and that you could read fairy tales correctly. 

 

Not too bad a job even if some of you did much better than others at handling both children and the English language.

Hi guys,

 

today we worked on the fairy tale: "Little Red Riding Hood".

You had to fill in a document while the narrator was reading the text and then you had to read it aloud sentence by sentence to recreate the text.

Here is the result of what you did. Not too bad!

Hi guys,

 

today we worked on the opening scene of Shrek again and you had to find the missing words in the script.

You can do the exercise here again:

Then you had to read out loud the opening of the story with the good accent (intonation and pronunciation) and also the good 'intention', as if you were really reading the book to a kid.

Practise again at home!

 

Finally, you had to pick in your groups one fairy tale among a list and prepare a mindmap of the original book (one branch for each person in your group).

Hi guys,

 

today we continued working on the theme: "A fairy tale". You had to reorganize the ideas you had with better starting points (characters, places, moments, actions, reasons/goals).

You can see the result of your brainstroming here:

Then we continued the lesson with an extract from Shrek (2001) to see if it fitted the definition you had created. You finally decided that it was not a fairy tale but a parody of a fairy with a twist in the story.

 

Here is what you said about during the lesson:

 

Shrek is a parody of a fairy tale. There is a twist in the story. Normally, a "Prince Charming" is noble, polite, clean and nice. But here, he is an ogre who is rude and dirty. He brushes his teeth with insects, he has showers with mud and he farts in water.

-> He even uses the pages of a book to clean his arse*** / ass*** / bottom...

 

Ingredients of a fairy tale:

Time: "Once upon a time..."

Place: castle

Characters: evil VS good

Story: a quest

-> always a happy ending ("and they lived happily ever after") = good prevails.

 

Vocab:

Hi guys,

 

today was the last lesson before your final test dealing with the environment and "emergency". Here is what we said about Michael Jackson's song in the end. 

 

Conclusion:

We should use recycled paper because paper is made of trees. We have felled too many trees in the rainforest.

We shouldn't buy ivory jewels or fur coats. They kill elephants for their tusks and seals for their fur. We have slaughtered too many animals. Now they are endangered.

We shouldn't pollute water or air because we drink and breathe in poison. Factories have polluted too much.

We should shock people to make them change their behaviour.

today we nearly finished talking about Earth Song by Michael Jackson.

We wrote the many reproaches that the singer makes to men that are either explicit or implicit in the song.

 

How to express reproach = (to) blame (someone) for + V-ing

-> The singer blames men for killing a lot of endangered animals.
