Mark's trip to the USA + The Gold Rush

Hi guys,

today we did a quick recap of the different destinations where Mark had gone during his holidays and here is what we said:

Mark's trip to the US

Mark flew from Britain to the USA.
First he landed at New-York airport and visited Niagara Falls then he flew to Grand Canyon and maybe he drove to Yellowstone.
Finally, he may have driven to Hollywood too.

Verbs:

        to fly (flew-flown)
        to land (= to arrive by plane)
        to drive (drove-driven)

Prep:
from --> provenance
to --> direction vers
at --> où l'on est... + lieu institutionnel, fermé, connu, ...
in --> où l'on est... + lieu ouvert, plus grand, plus général, ...
 

Ex: at school, at the hospital, at Niagara Falls, ...

Then we continued the lesson with a deeper analysis of the document and talked more about the gold rush:

The gold rush or "gold fever" (nickname) is when a lot of people went to the USA (particularly California (San Francisco)) from 1848 onwards because they wanted to find gold and to become rich.
The population of SF increased dramatically in two years (1848-1850) from 800 inhabitants to 40,000.
Now many cities of the gold rush are just ghost towns with nobody.
You can take a tour of these towns as a historical visit.
