Rekha's story and living conditions

Hi guys,

today we continued talking about Rekha and went deeper into the text's analysis. Here is what we said:

Rekha's living conditions and story:

She is a 12-year-old girl who lives in a small village in India. She refused to get married and rebelled against her parents' decision.

She stood up against their authority even if she felt she was forced to / had to obey because of traditions / customs.

She leads a dreary life in drastic / dreadful conditions; she has to work and cannot study.

She is a bidi-roller, i.e. she collects firewood and tendu leaves that she sells at the market.

In her house which is a slum/shack, there's no sanitation (no toilet and no running water) and no electricity. She doesn't have any hobbies; she never plays, she's never watched a movie,... How dreary!
