Illegal immigration to the US

http://www.georgesmayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/illegal-aliens1.bmpHey,

first we made a short recap of what we had said about the advert and we added some more information. We also corrected the translation sentences you had to make for last time and we commented on them. Here is what we said:

1- For millions of immigrants, the USA represented the Promised Land, a land of plenty and free entreprise.

Comments: "to be written by Priscilla"

2- Immigrants had to escape / flee from their countries for political, religious and economic reasons.

3- Some have suffered from hunger, unemployment, persecutions and discrimination.

4- They were often destitute and dreamed to start from scratch in America. They hoped to succeed and be wealthy finally / at last and well-fed.

5- The newcomers didn't expect to be considered as cheap labour force / work force.

Then we continued speaking about immigration and more precisely illegal immigration and our new text. Here is what we said:

"to be written by Priscilla"

HW: learn your lesson and get ready to speak about Ana's conditions of travelling from Mexico to the US.

Files: You can download a copy of the text here again.
