I like food, you like food, ...

Hey,

today we first warmed up with the "I love food" song and we listened to the very beginning of the movie again.

Here is what we said about it:

The director's critism:

The movie opens with a scene where children are taught a song; it goes: " I like food, you like food ...." It's like a slogan with choreography.

The children are taught to like and to go to fast food restaurants.

The director exaggerates / emphasizes the fact that everything is bigger in America.

He makes a long list: America has the biggest cars, the biggest companies, ... and the fattest people.

His final comment: " Congratulations!" is ironic.

Being obese is not healthy of course and shouldn't be encouraged.

However we must be careful with stereotypes and clichés.

For instance, in France we also have a growing obesity problem.

Grammar:

- pour signifier le plus, la plus, ou les plus on utilise -est a la fin de l'adjectif lorsque l'on a 2 syllabes maximum quand on rajoute ce suffixe. For example: healthy -> the healthiest...

- lorsque l'on a plus de deux syllabes on utilise "the most" avant l'adjectif qui reste inchangé. For example: obese -> the most obese...

- pour dire "le moins, la moins, les moins ..." -> the least + adj...

She likes healthy food

She comes from England

Bill used to live in the US before he went to England and met his wife. He spent 20 years in England before going back to the US.
