Hey,
today we first started the class with a dialogue to continue between a mother and her son. Here is what we said:
Mother: "Finish your breakfast!"
Son: "No, I won't. You stupid cow! He bites and spits at her.
Mother: "What the heck * (on earth * / the hell ** / the fuck ***) are you doing?! I'm going to send you to boarding school and to a psychiatrist".
She yells at (= scolds ) him and slaps him across the face.
"Go to your bedroom !", she demands.
Then I gave you some phrases to translate and we explained why. Here is a copy of this exercise:
Règle de l'emploi du "'s" en anglais :
Quand il y a la marque /s/ du pluriel, on ne met pa de " 's "
Quand la phrase n'en présente pas ou si le /s/ terminal n'est pas la marque d'un pluriel, nous mettons un " 's "
Et quand le pluriel est irrégulier et qu'il ne finit donc pas par un /s/ = obligé de mettre " 's "
EXERCICES D'ENTRAINEMENT:
Le visage des collègues : The colleagues' faces.
Le chapeâu d'Indiana Jones : Indiana Jones's hat .
L'employé du mois : The employee of the month.
La vie des gens : People's lives.
Je suis le roi du monde : I'm the king of the world.
Le niveau de langue des enfants : Jonas's dad.
La maison des Simpsons : The Simpsons' house.
Le projet du patron : The boss's project / The bosses' project.
Eventually, we started a new sequence about junk food. You had to imagine a dialogue between the two characters in the picture, to describe the cartoon and to analyse it. Here is what we said:
The cartoon is ironical. There are two characters who are eating junk food. They are couch potatoes. They have been eating a lot of unhealthy food for hours in front of the TV.
French fries, chips, tacos, hamburgers from Mc Donald's / the Golden Arches
They don't pay attention to what they are eating.
They are worried about genetically modified food while they should be concerned about junk food. The picture is ironical.
Expressing what you like:
- about Food : Hum, yummy !
It tastes delicious / yummy.
It's tasty.
- about an Activity : I love this program. It's so much fun.
We did a quick recap of voc., grammar, etc... and I added some information about the 5 senses.
L'évocation des 5 sens:
Oreille : It sounds + Adj
Nez : It smells ...
Vue : It looks ...
Toucher : It feels ...
Goût : It tastes ...
Si vous voulez ajouter un nom après un verbe de sens, il faudra rajouter LIKE. Au lieu d'avoir la structure VERBE DE SENS + Adj, vous aurez VERBE DE SENS + LIKE + nom.
HW: you will have a test on Friday dealing with the sequence on stereotypes. There will be questions about the lesson (both lesson + text entitled "In France, this is considered very English"), grammar questions about the possessive and a written expression. It will last about an hour, except if I can find a short text about stereotypes. In that case, it will last 30 miuntes longer. Any questions? feel free to ask them to me by mail.
You can find the illustration in your books p. 92.
