English Day by Day is designed for school students to improve their performance in the English language.
Hey,
today we first had the presentation of Achrafe for this cartoon:
As he had forgotten his notes, that was rather hard for him to do something good...
Achrafe, will you please post your notes as a comment to this article so that everyone can have access to them? Thanks in advance.
"to be posted by Achrafe" (+ specific vocabulary list)
Then in the second part of the hour, we studied the symbols in the French and South African flags (both the new flag and the former flag). Here is what we said about them:
The symbols in the flags
France:
blue & red = Paris
red = the colour could also symbolize blood
white = the king
The white is in the center to represent the pressure that the people of Paris put on the king for him to capitulate.
South Africa:
black = Black community and White = community
red = the blood shed during the wars
Natural resources: the wealth of the country
blue = sea (the fish and the tourism industry)
green= trees (wild life / wilderness and the tourism industry)
yellow = the gold mines
The name of the new flag is the "rainbow flag" because there are a lot of colours. In the former flag, the colour black was missing because there was Apartheid: the black community was segregated. They were not considered as important people.
HW: learn how to present the flags and the vocabulary that goes with them.
