Hey,
today we spoke about AIDS and how Bono (U2) defend the fight against the virus. We listened to an interview and a report to talk about the subject. You can listen to it here:
Here is what we said about it:
Two days ago was world AIDS day. It’s a day of information about the virus / disease.
Bono, the front man / leader of the band U2, is also a humanitarian activist. He leads the charity named “RED”. This organisation fights against the epidemic / pandemic; that’s why he was invited in Sydney, Australia to speak about the problem. He said: “Two pills of the treatment / drug only cost ¢40. 10 million people are gonna die unless we get them the drug”.
He also said that subsaharian Africa is the most contaminated / infected region in the world. 22 million people are infected there for 33 million people total worldwide. That's two thirds of the carriers.
Causes:
Someone can get infected with the virus...:
- ... if they have sexual intercourse with someone who is contaminated unless they wear a condom.
- ... if their mother has AIDS and passes it to the child unless she gets the drugs.
- ... if they get a blood transfusion unless the blood is controlled and warmed.
- ... if they’re a drug-addict / junky and they use the same infected needles as someone who is HIV positive.
HW: know your lesson by heart.
