The wedding ceremony of the cows + India's bright and seamy side

Hi guys,

today we continued working on India and we first watched a document about a strange wedding.

You can watch it again below:

Here is what we said about it:

Vocabulary :

                  a guest - a person attending a ceremony
                  Bridegroom --> Husband
                  Bride --> wife
                  Bridesmaid / best man
                  Holy / Sacred animal

Warm up:

The wedding ceremony of the sacred / holy cows.
WHO: It features a woman who wants to marry two cows.
WHERE: The scene takes place in a small village in India.
WHEN: It took two months to organize the ceremony.
WHAT: It deals with the wedding of two cows
           It is an unusual / a strange thing even in India where the animals are holy
How/Why: The woman decided to marry her cow; the animal is like a daughter for her since she can't have children
Cost: It cost a lot of money = expensive -> even if it cost only $3 or 4 / pers., you have to remember that 35% of the population in India live with less than $1 / day!

Then we continued the class with the analysis of the two sets of texts you had to read. Here are the pieces of information you have taken from the documents:

"to be written by Esther"

Additional Vocabulary:

"to be written by Esther"

HW:

- vous devez préparer un compte rendu complet sur les points positifs et négatifs du pays et donner votre opinion en fin de présentation: "would you like to visit India now, or not?"
