The Mysterious Picture

Hi guys,

today after slowly revealing the picture and having you try and be as good detectives as you could be, here is what we wrote in your copybooks: 

The picture is the cover of a weekly magazine entitled "The New Yorker"
It was published during the Xmas season. It depicts a living-room with a Xmas tree and decorations.
The Xmas presents / gifts have been opened; that's why the woman looks shocked and distressed.

Her children must have opened the gifts.
Her dog may have ripped the presents open.
A thief might have stolen her house when she was sleeping.
