Dancer in the dark : first scene

The main character of the movie is Selma, a young immigrant mother who used to work in a factory to earn money so that she could pay for her son's operation / surgery. Indeed, she is blind and Gene is growing blind too because of a genetic disease. However, Bill, her neighbour who is also a police officer, has stolen her the money. She goes to his house to get the money back and she says she still trusts him even if he is a thief. She is naive and gullible.
