The London Blitz

Hey,

today we first warmed up about the trip to England that some of you are going to take in March. It's going to be so much fun! I'm longing for it.

Then you took a vocabulary test and we explained the main differences between WWI and WWII. Here is some information that we wrote down:

Voc:

countryside (campagne)
seaside (bord de mer)
suburbs / outskirts (banlieue)
safe
landing
bombing

The characters in the text are probably not on the seaside because it wasn't safe. There might have been bombings or the landing of the enemy.
They are probably in the countryside. They feel safe even though the war sounds dreadful to them.

Then we continued studying the theme of the war with a document about the London Blitz. Here is what we said about the chronology of events:

Time line of the London Blitz: 1940-1941

Sept 7, 1940:
- beginning of the Blitz

4 p.m. - 6p.m. :
- the bombers launched the 1st attack

8 p.m. - Sept 7, 1940 :
- the second attack lasted until the next day.

From Sept 8, 1940 to November 1940 (57 days):
- London was bombed every day and every night (= intense, long)

May 11, 1941 :
- the end of the Blitz. Hitler sent his troops to the Russian front.

Most lethal attack:

- school bombing: lethal for a lot of people.
