English Day by Day is designed for school students to improve their performance in the English language.
Hey,
today after explaining the oral exam again we were able to continue the lesson about education in the UK. Here is what we said about the new text we have begun to study:
The document is an article from the online British newspaper "Telegraph.co.uk". It's entitled:
"Are children's summer holidays too long?" and it was published on June 5th 2007, i.e. (that's to say) at the beginning of the summer holidays.
Here is what we said about the equivalence between the French educational system and the British one:
Educational system: The diplomas
GCSE : diploma at the end of middle school
A-Levels : high school
Ph D : college
Sections: How to say in which class you are.
Freshman
Sophomore
Junior
"I'm a senior in highschool".
HW: you need to read the end of the text and say what the opinions of the internauts are and their arguments. Do they think summer holidays are too short or too long...? Give their reasons (at least 3).
Files: you can download a copy of the text here.
