English Day by Day is designed for school students to improve their performance in the English language.
Hey,
today we first warmed up with a video from the website "Reuters". You can watch it again here:
Here is what we wrote about the video:
The document is a news report from news channel « Reuters ».
It deals with students' protest in central London last week. They demonstrated against the increase of university fees. The government decided to cut down on budget in order to decrease the country's deficit.
Voc:
- (to) stare at = regarder fixement, plutôt de l'ordre de la peur, du dégoût (négatif)
- (to) gaze at = regarder fixement, plutôt de l'ordre de l'admiration (positif)
- (to) glance at = regard furtif, jeter un coup d'oeil
- a billboard / a placard
- Debt
- a scholarship / a grant
- (to) be injured
- (to) be hospitalized
Then we continued the class with the beginning of the translation of the text. Here is the and the beginning of what we have decided to say in French.
"You have already specified blue eyes, dark hair and fair skin."
= Vous avez déjà spécifié [cf. "specified" et pas un autre terme] les yeux bleus, les cheveux bruns [pour faire une succession de couleur] et la peau blanche [idem].
HW: for next time (i.e. Tuesday), you need to finish the translation. Remember that tomorrow is your final test (dialogue).
Don't forget that on Saturday morning (from 8 am to 11 am) you will take a mock exam.
