I am Canadian - Stereotypes

Hey,

today we first talked about Canadian stereotypes, i.e. what is commonly believed about Canadians.

And then, I had you watch this document:

You had to comment on the character's speech and the video. Here is what we said:

The video is an ad / advert / advertisement for a Canadian brand of beer(Molson).
It portrays a stereotypical Canadian male on stage: he is wearing a tartan shirt.
However, he tries to fight against people's preconceived ideas. Canadians are said to have a redneck accent but he doesn't. For example, he pronounces /about/ correctly and not [abv:t]; the letter /z/ is pronounced [zəd] and not [zi]. Canadians are thought to live in igloos or own a dogsleigh but it's not true. Canada is believed to be peopled by beavers. It's true he loves the animal. Canadians are said to have a president but it's wrong. They have a P.M. (Prime Minister)
