Sequence # 2 - Death Penalty

LAST WARNING: Nicolas, Jordan, I'm still waiting for your lessons!

Today we started a new sequence entitled: "Death Penalty".

We saw synonyms for this word:

-> the death sentence
-> the capital punishment

Then, because the TV set didn't work I had to change plans and we studied a set of three documents that you can download below:

Here is what we said about these documents:

The document depicts a graph of the number of executions in the U.S.
Texas is the state where the most important number of prisoners are executed / sentenced to death.

->Prisoners / convicts who are executed have committed horrible / unforgivable crimes.

-They may have murdered / killed / slain a lot of people.
-They may have raped someone.
-They may have shot someone dead.

GRAMMAR:
MAY HAVE + VERBE AU PARTICIPE PASSE= outil de la supposition au passé

The map depicts the states in the USA where there is the death penalty and where death penalty is not an option / you can't be sentenced to death.
Possible alternative sentences:
_ prison for life without parole
_ life imprisonment
_ a 20years' sentence

Your hypotheses: There are gang wars between the Hispanic and the Black community. So, maybe, these communities are the most executed ones.
I believe the Black community is discriminated against in death penalty cases but moderately.

Reality: Either the Blacks do not file a lawsuit or the lawsuit doesn't end in a death penalty case.
--> More Whites obtain a death penalty sentence / verdict than Blacks.
The situation is shocking / unfair/ outrageous / revolting.

I also handed out to you all the documents from the sequence and particularly the vocabulary sheet that we have explained together. Know these words by heart as there will be tests about them.
