Ruth Simmons - a success story from rags to riches

http://www.businesspundit.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/ruth-simmons.jpgHey,

today you first took a vocabulary test. Then we continued our lesson about education and we particularly focused our attention on Ruth Simmons. Here is what we said about her story:

Listen to the document again here:

Ruth Simmons: A success story.

The document is an interview. It deals with the life of Ruth Simmons.
She is a black woman who started from scratch and finally succeeded. Her parents were poor / destitute / miserable.
They earned low wages. Her father was just a cropper / a sheer cropper and her mother was a maid / cleaning woman. Even if her family was uneducated and illiterate, she thinks they were wonderful.
They have always taught her to fight and succeed. She was the best student / the most brillant student / the smartest student in her class; consequently, she was granted a scholarship to study in a prestigious college.

HW: prepare a two or three-minute presentation about the Ivy League college of your choice + learn your lesson.

+ Get ready for your reading comprehension test in the afternoon.

Files: download the MP3 file here. (click right and select "Enregistrer la cible du lien sous...")
