Real or Fake? + Duane Hanson's works of art

Hi guys,

today was not a studious as it should have been... but what the heck, you did work and speak a little. I forgot to give you the reward stickers I had promised you. Please remind me next time I see you but DO NOT whine for them.

Here is what we did today as a warm up:

It’s unbelievable!

        incredible!

        impossible!

Oh my God! ...Gosh! ...Goodness!

Jesus Christ! Geez! Gee!

What the Hell!

                  heck!

NB: Don't forget to learn new ways of expressing surprise and disbelief thanks to the worksheet I gave you.

Then we continued with recording the voicemail message from Mattel / MacDonald's. I'll be correcting for next Monday.

Finally, we began a new sequence with the description and brief analysis of this picture:

Here is what we said about it:

The tourists: a work of art by Duane Hanson

The 2 people look hyper realistic. They look like real tourists.

A couple is clad in summer clothes and the perfect tourist’s accessories (a cap, a head band, a shirt with flowers, vivid flashy colors, cameras, sandals, ...)

They look like... : - they are waiting for their plane at the airport

... looking at the horizon by the beach

                                             ... looking at a monument

                                - someone is taking a picture and they are striking the pose.

They correspond to the stereotype of tourists / the idea everyone has of a tourist. They are clichés.

You also had to identify 4 photographs of Duane Hanson's statues and tell me what their names were and what comments were made about them in the following audio document:

Hey Mr. Hattais!
How are you doing? That's funny, I was looking for pictures of Duane Hanson's works of art on the web and I got the link to your blog. I'll be working on them with my TL (in a sequence entitled
"Somewhere Else"). I've seen you've got 1LVA, I'm teaching them as well. I'm taking them to an exhibition on Lewis Hine tomorrow afternoon (at Fondation Cartier-Bresson) and then they'll have to
select their favourite picture and present it as if they were columnists writing for an arts magazine. Hope everything's going great for you in Max Dormoy's.

Hey,

I had written a whole message that went dthzeofehfklqsdh because of a bug! argh!

Well just to tell you that I'm amazed at the coincidence :) and that I'm really glad to have some news.

Say hey to everyone at Champlain for me and if you're interested in some "final tasks" for LVA students, I'll be posting the results as soon as I can. So don't hesitate and log on the blog once
in a while to check what they have done, give me tips on what you do, and maybe get some more ideas for your personal classes.

Take care,

P.
