How to write a dialogue and give the emotions of the characters

http://www.drcdurham.ca/images/referee_1.gifHey,

today, we first gossiped about Eva Longoria and Tony Parker's divorce. Here is what we said:

In the US, everybody talks about Eva and Tony Parker's divorce. Eva accuses Tony of having an affair / of cheating on her / of betraying her. Tony is said to have received text messages from the wife of one of his basketball team-mates.

Then we continued the lesson with the analysis of the behaviours of the characters in the text and we saw thanks to the speech verbs and attitudes that the scene was like a competition between Paul West and the other employees. Jean-Marie acted as the referee. Here is the list of attitudes revealing the characters' inner feelings:

- Paul West:

"I suggested" (l.5), "I frowned" (l.8), "I turned to Jean-marie for help" (l.8), "I ventured" (l.11), "I felt as if I was / were in surrealist film" (l.18), "said"(l.25)

- Jean-Marie:

"explained" (l.17), "said" (l.20), "was not looking keen" (l.29), "was playing interpreter" (l.44)

- The employees / the colleagues:

"jerking himself upright" (Bernard: l.6 = he's in shock), "laughed" (l.8), "explained", "turned to Jean-marie for support" (Bernard: l.16), (Marc: l.36), "nodded" (Stéphanie:
l.36), "added" (Bernard : l.40), add = ajouter),
"confirmed with a prod of her finger on the table"(Stéphanie: l.46)

HW: for next time, get prepared for a vocabulary test (on MONDAY). We will correct the dialogues that you have turned in today (I will have them given back to you on Friday). Don't forget that you will take a 2-hour test on Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm. You won't have economy on that day.
