English Day by Day is designed for school students to improve their performance in the English language.
Hey,
today first warmed up with what you had done during the break and with what I did during the holidays... I adopted 24 cats!
Here is how you can react:
- You're pulling my leg, aren't you?
- You must be kidding me!
- Are you joking?
- You can't be serious!
- Oh come on! -> Cut the crap (**) / Stop your non sense! (*)
Then we continued speaking about the text and after making a quick recap of what had said about it, we analysed the characters' feelings in a chart. Here is what we said about Maria and Antonio:
Maria :
- At first, she is nervous
- And then, she is (++) anxious
- half-convinced
- hesitant
- suddenly enthused
- ... is staring at ... = horrified...?
Antonio :
- At the beginning, he is nervous too
- Then, he is more diplomatic than Maria
- He squeezes Maria's hand
- He is blank/ he shrugs
- He beams proudly
- And finally his face falls (disappointed)
Finally, we concluded with a graph of how to represent the evolution of the characters' feelings.
Vocabulary of the lesson:
"to be written by Lydia" (there is more than just one word...)
- enthused = elated
HW: you need to finish speaking about the characters (including the geneticist) and learn your lesson.
