After interrogating some of you about the lesson and the homework, we wrote things about Ellis Island, "E Pluribus Unum", and "Pogroms". Here is what we said:
- "Pogroms" were persecutions against Jews by the Russian army at the beginning of the 20th century. Their villages were destroyed and they were killed." - "Ellis Island" used to be an immigration station. It was opened in the 1890's. Immigrants had to pass a series of test to be allowed to get in the US. If they were sick for instance, they returned to their countries of origin." - "E Pluribus Unum" is the motto of the USA. It means "Out of many, one". It is a symbol for the melting-pot. The USA are a land of immigration where many different ethnic groups live together."
We then watched of scene from the movie entitled "Ellis Island". You can watch it again below:
"The scene takes place in Russia in 1907. It is a pogrom against a Jewish village. The Russian soldiers arrived and burned the houses. They shot everyone dead except a man who succeded in escaping. He fled on a horse."

It's such a long time since we've been in touch , I have lots of things , to tell you .<br />
I was in the village when I saw.<br />
Russians soldier arrived they were ridding straigt away to the village .<br />
They killeds a many people , brunt all the houses .<br />
When the soldiers arrived I was terrifias and of raid .<br />
Everybody was crying , shouting it was appalling .<br />
The mothers looked for their children , and ran to come back at home .<br />
When they didn't find them they wept litterly and flied into a rage.<br />

You can't imagine how . I was so furious just because we was Jews !<br />
But I didn't tell you the worst , the Russians came in dad's house broke down the door and killed him . Marry I was so upset , dispirited .<br />
I didn't know what I should do .<br />
When I decided to escape , a soldier shot me in my leg . I shopped shight anay und because of the hurt .<br />
I saw a gun at my feet . I lost my controle , I took it and killed this soldier .<br />
Finelly I fled on a hourse .<br />
Since the program I feel blue.<br />
Now , I would like to emigrate to go away , fan from this country that I couldn't bear anymore .<br />
I think about the U.S.<br />
People will be more respectful , there will be no racism and'so .<br />
I will have a better life.<br />
