Today, we debated a little over the differences between the rating system in France and the one in the US. We said:
The signs are there to warn children and parents about the content of the programs. In the US there are 3 categories: - PG (Parental Guidance) : parents are strongly recommended to accompany their children to watch this type of movie but it is not absolutely necessary. - PG 13 : children under 13 years of age are allowed to watch this type of films provided his/her parents are with him. - R (Restricted) : Teenagers under 17 years old are not allowedeven if they are accompanied.
Of course, you can try to sneak up the queue like I did when I was 11 to watch "Dracula" and lie about your age but the policy is much stricter in the US. In France, you can eitherlie to watch the movie orabide by the law and not go if you're too young.
But even if a child watches a violent movie with his parents, he will still watch the same movie and acts of horror. HW : Comment on : "by the time a child is 16 years of age, he will have witnessed 33.000 murders..."
