we finished listening to the audio document on New York City's ethnic groups. Here is what we said:
"Nowadays, lots of immigrants suffer from ∅ racism, ∅ poverty, and ∅ unemployment. They fled their countries of origin in order to have a better life but the American dream was not always what they thought."

They were jobless/unemployed. They hoped that they could have a better life. They wanted to make money, at least get better wages and why not make a fortune?"
