Types of humour in the text --- the examples

Hey guys,

today we first corrected your homework with the different types of humour that there is in your text and here is what you finally wrote from the board:

Types of humour :

Bernard's proposition -> "My tea is rich"

Situational comedy: it doesn't mean anything => there is a misunderstanding. It's a quid pro quo

"OK , OK , I think I'm with you" : It's ironic (irony) because he doesn't really understand and yet approves.
"Where did they get this crap?" -> situational comedy (ex : you're crap at English -> something incorrect)
"It's like ... campsite = camping ... parking = carpark ... " -> stereotype / broad generalization -> comparison - It's not English

Salvador Dali, a Spanish surrealist painter

Stereotype: Paul thinks he's French maybe but he is actually Spanish

Grotesque: the fact that S.D arrives and flies in the meeting with a baguette is just impossible. His imagination has gone wild / crazy

The fact that the French are proud of their names which are incorrect (which are incorrect) is grotesque. It's also based on the cliché that French people are said to be arrogant (= stereotype)

Finally, we did some theater. One of our objectives will be to turn the text we are studying into a play. Hopefully, we'll be able to finish this next week.
