The main idea : Ethical consumers give up purchasing organic and fair trade products.
Facts : The sales of ethical products have dropped. According to a poll the number of consumers ready to pay for ethical products has plunged.
Reasons : Because the consumers’ purchasing power has fallen because of the recession.
Branching out: Why do you think consumers buy organic and fair trade products?
People think organic products are healthier but it’s not all, it’s better for our earth.
For example for vegetables, producers don’t use pesticides so it’s more natural.
They think organic products are healthier and environmentally-friendly because they are grown without fertilizers and pesticides.
They are natural products.
Fair trade products : these products aim at helping small producers (from poor countries) who cannot compete against multinationals.
