The Gold Rush - 1 Mark's trip to the USA

Hey,

today we first did a quick recap of what we had said about the picture with the Rolls Royce.

Then we moved on with a new document about Mark. You can listen to his conversation with a friend after he came back to England from the States:

Here is what we said about this document:

Audio Document: Gold Rush

The document deals with Mark, an Englishman who travelled to the USA and visited many monuments.
He went to Niagara Falls and the West Coast. He particularly liked California and more precisely, San Francisco.
He has even found a gold nugget. In the 19th century, gold diggers went to California to become rich / to strike it rich, between 1848 and 1850.
San Francisco's population increased (= went up) very fast; there were a lot of inhabitants. Consequently, violence also increased and the price of food (particularly water) went up.
The "Gold Fever" was brutal and violent. It was dangerous and life was expensive.
