Squanto's story - Follow-up class

Hi guys,

today the class was once again hectic. Some of you really don't deserve to be taught...

Here is what we did. We talked about Squanto's story again and analysed the text to understand the vocabulary a bit more:

- Squanto was a helper: he helped the pilgrims.

- He was teacher: he taught the pilgrims how to fertilize the soil.

- He was a guide: he guided the pilgrims.

- He was a friend: he reconciled the Native Americans and the pilgrims.

Vocab:

(to) plant - (to) grow - (to) harvest - (to) eat
- a seed
- corn / maize

Then we analysed how to pronounce the /-ed/ ending of the preterite in English and you had to classify the verbs according to their pronunciation:

[t]

[id]

[d]

help
talk

guide
invite
harvest
decide
...

reconcile
live
call
show
...

Règle phonétique:

La prononciation dépend du son qui termine le mot (pas de la lettre mais du dernier son entendu).

Finally, you had to highlight all the irregular verbs in the preterite and find their infinitives:

Ex:

"was" -> be
"came" -> come
"taught" -> teach
...

______________________

Homework:

- être capable de lire le texte avec le bon accent, en particulier la bonne prononciation des terminaisons -ed des verbes au prétérit.
