today, you had to compare the extract from the comic book I gave you and the extract from the movie we watched. We made to columns to identify the differences and the similarities. Here is what we wrote:
Similarities: Peter has a crush on a girl. It's a science exhibit/lecture. Other students laugh at him. Peter is a shy student who loves science. He is a photographer. He wears glasses. He is bitten by a spider which comes from the ceiling.
Differences: exhibit about spiders instead of radioactivity. A woman is the lecturer. Peter quickly obtains his powers. He has a friend. He is in class. The haircuts are different. Sally instead of Mary. The DNA is modified.
Then you had to link those ideas using link words of contrast and of similarity.
Link words expressing contrast : whereas, while, on the one hand/on the other hand. Link words expressing similarity : Like, also, as... as...
Finally, we worked on pronunciation. We saw that questions have two ways to be pronounced. Either with a rising intonation or with a falling intonation.
Phonetic Rule:
- Si la question est une question ouverte (commence par un pronom interrogatif comme "how", "where", "when", ...), alors l'intonation est descendante.
- Si la question est fermée (on ne peut répondre que par yes/no), alors l'intonation est montante.
