Shrek - The credits

Hey,

today after speaking a little about your classmates who are still stuck in Greece, we watched the credits from the movie "Shrek". Here is the transcript of the opening:

Once upon a time
there was a lovely princess
but she had an enchantment
upon her of a fearful sort
which could only be broken
by love's first kiss.

She was locked away in a castle
guarded by a terrible
fire-breathing dragon.

Many brave knights had attempted
to free her from her dreadful prison
but none prevailed.

She waited in the dragon's keep
in the highest room of the tallest tower
for her true love and her true love's first kiss.

Then we commented on the discrepancies between a real fairy tale and Shrek which is a parody. Here is what we said:

Shrek is an anti-hero. Instead of being charming and brave like a prince or a knight, he farts, he uses a page of fairy tale book to wipe his arse (UK) /ass (US) *** ; he's vulgar/rude; he's ugly ; he lives in a bog / swamp.
Moreover, ogres are said to eat children / Legend has it that the ogres eat children:
He's not fit for the role of a hero and yet he is the hero.

Shrek is a parody. Many typical elements are subverted. It's comical; we laugh because there's a gap / difference / discrepancy between a real hero and Shrek.

Eventually, we watched the credit titles from Shrek 2 and we saw that it was the same mechanism that made us laugh, i.e. the gap between Shrek and a true fairy tale.
