Sequence # 2 - Super Heroes and comic books

http://clabedan.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/28/superman.gifHey,

today we started a new sequence about super heroes. Before we read a text about Superman, we made a list of common points between all super heroes and here is what we said:

- They fight against villains / evil.
- They have super powers or use gadgets.
- They wear costumes in order to hide their real identities.
- They pledge to champion truth and justice.
- They do justice instead of the police. / They help the police to do justice.

Then, thanks to the text with the missing words, we talked about the methods to understand words that don't make sense at first and we found the meaning of the following words with the context and with their structures:

- doomed: destin fatal
- elderly: agé
- awesome: extraordinaire
- outrun: dépasser en courant
- leap: sauter

Rappel: l'auxiliaire modal "CAN" sert à exprimer la capacité. On l'utilise comme suit:
- Superman can bend steel in his bear hands.
- He can outrun a speeding locomotive.
- He can leap from building to building.
CAN + V-infinitif
