Respect and disrespect - How to live in a community

Hey,

today we first talked about if you had ever witnessed signs of disrespect at the highschool. Here is what we said about the subject:

Signs of disrespect

. shouting / screaming in the corridors is a sign of disrespect for students and teachers in class and for the whole community.
. leaving your papers on the floor -> the maid.
. wearing a cap or hood inside the school -> the community
. playing with the food -> the cook
. not being polite:
. not smiling
. not doing your homework
. not trying to succeed -> myself

When rules are not respected (either common sense rules or if they are written in a booklet), it’s annoying. We should all abide by these rules to be able to live in community.

Then we continued the class about the advert in both Spanish and English. Here is what we said about it:

The message conveyed by the advert is that everybody can succeed in America even if they come from another country. The boxing champion with his bathrobe is a clear sign of success. He has managed to fit in/ integrate into mainstream America.
He is proud to wear the Star-Spangled Banner. The target of the commercial is unclear and that’s what makes it interesting.
For example, the message « where is your moustache ? » could be aimed at Latin Americans or mainstream Americans. The advertiser doesn’t make a difference. What’s more, in Spanish « su bigote » is a sign of respect. It’s like the « vous, votre » in French.

HW: don't forget your translation exercise + Priscilla (Gattaca) and Laëtitia (Torn Apart), please think about your commentary in case there should be an oral exam at the end of the year.
