Oral test + Spiderman's first page

With the first group,

we did a quick warm up about the swine flu again. Here is what we said:

The vaccination campaign against swine flu has recently started. But we are not allowed to get a vaccine shot yet. Only medical staff are allowed.

Then, we continued with the oral test about the picture p. 152 that you had to comment for today.
Here are the notes that we wrote about the subject:

Symbols:
- fence: division / separation
- white: white power
- top VS bottom: North vs South of the USA
- people working VS people being idle
- rich people VS poor people

Link words:
- whereas / while
- contrary to ...
- On the contrary...

Cultural Notions:
- Slavery
- Apartheid (South Africa)
- Racial segregation (US)

Finally, we studied the first page from the comic book Spiderman. Here is what we said about it:

The document is the first panel of the comic book entitled Spiderman. It depicts Peter Parker who is standing alone in the background whereas / while a gang / a party of students is making fun of him / is calling him names / is kidding him in the foreground.

Link words to speak about contrast:

- On the contrary, ....
- ... contrary to ...
- ... while / whereas ...
