New Year's resolutions + South Africa's history

<br /> SOUTH AFRICA'S HISTORY :<br /> <br /> - South Africa was frist settled ( /dominated/conquered ) by Dutch, French and German protestants. They are called the Afrikaners.<br /> <br /> - Then the British arrived and tried to dominate the country.<br /> <br /> - But finally, the Afrikaners rebelled and look the power. It was the beginning of aportheid.<br /> <br /> - The ANC is Nelson Mandela's political party. He was sent to prison ( /jail) because of his ideas. (/ He was sentences to life in prison beacause of his ideas)<br /> <br /> - The black people were resettled ( /relorated/sent ) homelands ( /bantustans/township ).<br /> <br /> - People were segregated ( /discriminated ) against.<br /> <br /> - They lived in Shacks ( /Shantytowns/slums ).<br /> <br /> <br /> Important words :<br /> <br /> Sentenced to life in prison<br /> Homeland<br /> township<br /> settle - settlement - settler<br /> desperate living conditions<br /> discriminated against<br /> shack<br /> shantytown<br /> slum<br /> Afrikaner<br /> apartheid<br /> Rainbow flag / Rainbow nation<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> BLACK AND WHITE :<br /> <br /> Tenjy : Black - Woman - She opposes horself to the white power - She believes both white and black people have skills - She recognizes white people have brought positive things to South Africa.<br /> <br /> Tenjy'uncle (John) : Black - Man - He agrees with Tenjy (His niece) - He is proud of his country - He is a nationalist : "This is an Africa - Country".<br /> <br /> Mapetla : Black - Man - His tone is bitter/Angry - He doesn't like white people - He makes a difference between blacks and whites - He thinks black are superior - He thinks very little of whites<br /> people - He scorns white people - Mapetla thinks the whites are reponsable (reproaches) for the problems in South Africa (SA) : "He homeless, the poor, the children who are abandoned,<br /> apartheid".<br /> <br /> Mapetla is narrow-minded, he is better. Whereas, Tenjy' uncle is open-minded (/tolerant), he is sweet.<br /> <br /> Tenjy' uncle wants unity. Whereas, Mapetla wants a war (/segregation/only black people in Africa).<br /> <br /> Steve Biko : Black - Man - Nationalist (is involved in politics) - He fights for the rights of black people.<br /> <br /> Donald Woods : White - Man - Journalist - He asks people questions - He makes a respect on interview.<br /> <br /> <br />
