New Year's resolutions + South Africa's history

http://www.cricketump.com/images/World%20Cup%202003/kliptown_soweto.JPGHey,

today we first talked about good resolutions for this year. Here is what we said as a warm up:

"to be written by Fanny"

Then we continued talking about South Africa and particularly South Africa's history. Here is what we said:

SOUTH AFRICA'S BRIEF HISTORY:

- South Africa was first settled / dominated / conquered by Dutch, French and German protestants. They are called the Afrikaners.
- Then the British arrived and tried to dominate the country.
- But finally, the Afrikaners rebelled and took the power back. It was the beginning of apartheid.
- The ANC is Nelson Mandela's political party. He was sent to prison / jail because of his ideas = He was sentenced to life in prison because of his ideas.
- The black people were resettled / relocated / sent to homelands / bantustans / townships.
- People were segregated / discriminated against.
- They lived in shacks / shantytowns / slums.

Finally, after Marie-Sophie's presentation, we started to analyse our new text entitled "Black and White".
