today we first warmed up about the earthquake in Haiti and here is the mind map we drew on the board:
A mind map
A topical issue: Huge earthquake in Haiti Horrible situation The media Number of victims / death toll: We don't know, thousands and thousands
Damage: - human damage - material damage: many buildings / cities have been destroyed
Hardships: - not enough to eat - bury the bodies - adds up to poverty
Actions: - Help: --> medical help from charities/ aid workers --> food / water --> donate money to charities --> send soldiers : - to avoid civil war, violence, looting --> to rescue people under the debris --> the UN (United Nations)
Then we continued our study of the scene from I, Robot. Here is what we said about the shots in the movie:
Shots: - reverse shot: The characters are talking, probably about the murder / suicide / death of Doctor Lanning. It is a confrontation between the detective and a suspect.
- low-angle shot: The low-angle shot gives the impression that the character is tall. He looks powerful, like the robot in the first scene.
Finally, we began to analyse the points of view of the 2 characters and here is what we said about them:
Opinions: --> Dr spooner: - is against robots - thinks robots should not control everything - believes Dr Lanning was murdered - is teasing the CEO about his company
--> The CEO / boss of the company - is in favour of robots - thinks robots are very important. They are programmed to help. - believes doctor Lanning commited suicide - looks guilty
HW: for next time (Friday), you need to prepare 3 arguments IN FAVOUR OF robots and 3 arguments AGAINST robots. We'll finish analysing the scene and hopefully we'll be able to correct part of your test about The Fun They Had. It means that on Wednesday, you'll have an oral comprehension test. It will be a scene from I, Robot.
