Death Row - The end

Hey,

today we talked about the text "Death Row" and more particularly about the characters' feelings in the text. Here is what we said:

At the beginning of the text, the characters are ill-at-ease. There are long pauses and they avoid looking at each other. Sam even lights a cigarette; it shows he is distressed / anxious / under stress.  
Sam is being ironic when he says "I'd rather die of lung cancer". He is resigned and desperate. He is also ironic when he talks about the way of dying. It is said to be more humane to die by lethal injection but he actually doesn't care*/ mind.
The way he will die doesn't matter to him. He just wouldn't like to die, period. His grandson will try to re-open his case and save his life. He might manage to get him out of death row.
The way Sam speaks shows he trusts Adam. He speaks to him as though he were a friend. Ex: "(it) Makes (th)'em feel better"
