Today, we corrected the oral presentation you had to make about this sentence: "by the time a child reaches 16 years of age, he will have witnessed 33.000 murders..."
Here is what you said:
"This number seems to be wrong. It can' t be!(It' s impossible). I'm not under the impression that I have watched 33 000 murders. If so, I find it shocking and worrying. If I were aware of it, I could not continue living with these images in my head. I believe that children who are not adults yet shouldn't be exposed to so violent images in scary movies or thrillers. It mighttrigger violent behaviors and lead to their mental breakdown. That's why there are signs to warn parents about the content of the programs their children watch. However, I have never committed a crime, I have never murdered anyone. But you never know, some children are more fragile than others."
In the second part of the class, we first commented on this cartoon:
Here is what you said:
"The document is a cartoon. It depicts a man who is watching TV. He is watching a program about aids in Africa. He seems to prefer Real TV. He is really angry because he wants his program. The picture is ironical. Real problems are compared to a reality show. The author denounces that people don't mind about problems in the world. People are just couch potatoes who just care about thouselves."
And finally we had a debate about tonight's TV program... The "Thalassa group" was probably the most convincing one but you all still need to work on more striking arguments. Some vocabulary words about TV shows: - an entertaining / boring program - landscape - (to) travel throughout the world
Next time, we'll work on this text: You can also download the worksheets here:
