Hi guys,
today we first corrected your exercise about the outfit of a super hero.
Then we continued the lesson with studying a text and finding some clues to know which super hero the text was dealing with. You hesitated between Batman, Spiderman, and Superman but you rightfully decided that it was: "SUPERMAN"!
Congratulations!
Here is the full text with important elements to remember (clues in green):
It's a simple story. A doomed planet explodes. A scientist places his infant son in a rocket ship destined for Earth. An elderly couple, the Kents, adopts the boy and name him Clark. Growing up, the youth demonstrates awesome abilities. He can leap tall building, bend steel in his bare hands, and outrun speeding locomotives.
Fortunately, he pledges to champion truth, justice and the American way. To the unsuspecting world, Clark may appear to be just another mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, but he is no ordinary man. He is of course Superman.
Recap:
Superman is a hero because...:
- he wants to save the world (he "pledges to champion truth, justice, and the American way").
- he has super powers:
he can leap tall buildings = he is able to jump over buildings
he can bend steel in his bare hands = he is extremely strong
he can outrun speeding locomotives = He is able to run very fast
-> He has awesome abilities = He is able to do extraordinary things = He is no ordinary man.
Remember:
- les noms de famille en anglais prennent un "s" quand on désigne la famille dans son intégralité. cf. "the Kents"
